The incident began on Thursday evening when a trooper spotted a red Chevrolet Impala making an improper turn near Superior Street and Cornhusker Highway. The trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver, later identified as Zachary Douglas, fled the scene at speeds reaching 90 miles per hour. The pursuit ended when the trooper lost sight of the Impala, but it was soon discovered that the vehicle had been stolen.The following day, the same trooper spotted the red Impala parked at a home near North 16th and Knox streets. Upon approaching the vehicle, the troopers discovered a 12-inch sawed-off double barrel shotgun placed on the driver's seat. As the authorities moved closer to the home, they spotted a man, later identified as Zachary Douglas, running out the back door. After a brief chase, Douglas was apprehended and arrested.

The Troubling Findings

A search of Douglas revealed that he was in possession of 31 grams of methamphetamine, pre-packaged for distribution, as well as seven alprazolam pills. Additionally, the troopers found a scale and drug paraphernalia inside the stolen vehicle. The shotgun was also found to have a single shell loaded in the left barrel.The arrest affidavit noted that Douglas is a convicted felon, which legally prohibits him from possessing a firearm. This discovery, coupled with the presence of the sawed-off shotgun and the significant quantity of methamphetamine, has led to a slew of charges against the suspect.
