Stolen Vehicle Sparks Initial Pursuit

The incident began on Sunday evening when the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office received an alert about a stolen vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 41 from Breezewood Lane. A state trooper spotted the car and initiated a pursuit, but was forced to abandon the chase.

Suspects Swap Plates, Narrowly Avoid Head-On Collision

Fifty minutes later, a Fond du Lac County deputy located a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car on Lakeshore Drive in the Town of Friendship. However, the suspects had swapped the license plates with ones stolen from another vehicle after the initial pursuit. The suspects then proceeded to pass a number of southbound vehicles, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle as they entered the city of Fond du Lac. Law enforcement officers were forced to call off the pursuit due to the imminent danger to the public.

High-Speed Chase Continues, Suspects Evade Stop Sticks

The suspects were spotted again, this time on Winnebago Drive in the Town of Fond du Lac. They fled at high speed onto Highway 151, where deputies attempted to deploy stop sticks to deflate their tires. However, the driver managed to avoid the stop sticks, exiting the highway at Johnson Street and driving across the lawns of businesses on Wisconsin American Drive.

Dramatic PIT Maneuver and Crash

A deputy performed a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver, striking the suspects' vehicle. The suspects continued on Johnson Street, driving in the eastbound lane while heading west and then switching to the westbound lane, forcing other vehicles to swerve to avoid collisions. The chase culminated in a final PIT maneuver, causing the suspects' vehicle to lose control and crash into a tree on Morningside Drive.

Suspects Apprehended, Facing Numerous Charges

The driver, a 23-year-old Green Bay man, suffered minor injuries, while the passenger, a 22-year-old Green Bay woman, was kept at the hospital for longer, though her injuries were also considered minor. The driver is facing charges in Fond du Lac County, including Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent, Fleeing and Eluding, Recklessly Endangering Safety, Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of Narcotics.
