Whether you serve these as an easy appetizer idea or add them to your holiday brunch spread, homemade sausage balls are a crowd-pleaser any time of day. We created the recipe in our Test Kitchen for the perfect balance of cheese and sausage. Adding fresh chives gives each bite subtle onion flavor and a touch of color.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork sausage

  • 1 cup biscuit mix

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground sausage and baking mix. Using hands, thoroughly mix until combined, adding milk 1 Tbsp. at a time as needed.

  3. Add cheeses and chives; mix well.

  4. Divide mixture into about 1 1/2 Tbsp portions and roll into 1 1/2- inch balls. Arrange on prepared pan.

  5. Bake until lightly brown, 15 minutes. Serve immediately.
